Preparing for Camp/Things to Know about FHPW
Here’s a short list of information and items to get yourself prepared for the Flint Hills Publications Workshop. For lodging options, check out our page on nearby hotels.
When do I arrive at camp?
Typically, workshop check-in takes place between 9 and 9:30 a.m. on the scheduled workshop date. Make sure you arrive as early as you can within that time frame! More specific information will be provided when FHPW 2027 is on the horizon.
Where do I arrive?
- Kedzie Hall between rooms 105 and 106, at 828 Mid-Campus Drive South Manhattan, KS 66506
What should I bring?
- Classroom Supplies
- Typical school supplies; a notebook, writing utensils, etc.
- It’s highly suggested to bring a laptop or other mobile computer for taking notes on or work on track assignments. Computers are highly encouraged for all attending courses at the Flint Hills Publications Workshop, but especially for anyone going to courses regarding Social Media, Design Elements, Dynamic Visuals, or Video Production.
- A folder to bring home supplies/documents and handouts you may receive during camp.
- Photographers: bring a camera and gear you normally use during a photo assignment at school.
- Designers: bring 3-5 magazines per student to help with design inspiration.
- Copies of your school’s publications—newspapers, news magazines, and even your yearbook! These are great resources for getting good critiques and design inspiration from others.
- AP Stylebook is suggested for the Writing and Reporting and Leadership courses.
What is the schedule?
FHPW 2027 does not have a schedule yet, but you can view the 2026 session’s itinerary for reference on our schedule page. Feel free to download it for quick offline access and reference!
